Explanation
We issued a two-phase jet of pulverized-coal particles and air from the central burner port (inner diameter: 6 mm) and stabilized a flame by the outer annular pilot burner of diffusion methane flame (slit width: 0.5 mm). The pulverized-coal particles were visualized by a green-light sheet of Ar ion laser. The photograph shows that the ignition of pulverized-coal particles starts in the vicinity of the burner port and combustion proceeds downstream. (Exposure time: 1/8000 s, Coal: Newlands, Nominal balk velocity of jet: 6.4 m/s, Mass base median particle diameter: 33 micron, Coal injection rate: 8.9 g/min)
